I think Gabriela Mistral is one of the most popular and important women in the chilean history. I dont like her so much but i cant deny the fact that she do right things.
Her name was Lucila de Maria Godoy Alcayaga, she was born in vicuña in 1889 and died in 1957 at the age of 68. She was a huge literature reference in those years, she was a poet and a educationalist and won a Nobel award of literature in 1945. She start with the teacher thing at the age of 15, she was mentioned assistant in escuela de la compañia baja in 1904. Then in 1910 she moved to santiago to keep teaching in escuela de barranca. She join the Escuela normal de preceptores.
She write poems at the same time she was a teacher so in the Serena newspaper they were publishing her verses. one of them is "Las lágrimas de la huérfana". In 1914 she has the highest distinction in the Floral Games. Then in 1922 she travel to Mexico to help the ministery of education. Desolation was publishd in new york the same year, after that Gabriela became an international recognition and prestige.
She lived in so many different countries like Chile, Mexico, Italia, Brazil and more. In 1945 the Swedish Academy finally awarded Gabriela Mistral with the Nobel Prize for Literature.
In her personal life she has a really hard life whit fail relationship and suicides from close people. She never married any man a and there were rumors about lesbianism.
